NARHAMS Meeting Minutes September 5, 2020 Attendees Voting Members: Jennifer Ash, Jim Filler, Edward Jackson, Sarah Jackson, Alex Mankevich, Jim Miers, Ed Pearson, Alan Williams, Mark Wise Non-voting members and guests: Sally Cook, Bruce Canino, Marty Sterba Meeting called to order 7:00 PM Elections: Alex announced meeting was open for nominations for club officers. No one nominated. MOTION, by Ed Pearson, Alan Williams, to elect current officers by acclamation. Motion passed, none opposed. Officers are: President- Alex Mankevich Vice President- Alan Williams Treasurer- Ed Jackson Secretary- Sarah Jackson Section Advisor- Jim Miers Discussed Outreaches: No outreaches August meeting minutes read. MOTION to accept the minutes as read by Ed Jackson, Mark Wise; Motion passed, none opposed. Old Business: Airport Museum Conference Room- Alan Williams to reach out to the airport to see if NARHAMS can use the big conference room. Staff replied with concern over sanitation procedures necessary to loan out room. Reply seems to be no. August Mt. Airy launch report- All club purchased PPE was available. We used electronic waivers and flight cards. Many people offered to volunteer. The majority of participants maintained social distancing and mask usage. Suggestions given for increasing the number of working tablets, going back to paper waivers, and setting up flags to denote where flyers can set up prep areas that are out of the flight line and socially distanced. The crowd was decently sized, but agreement was made that a larger crowd would be harder to handle. Scouts- Discussion on how or whether to invite scout groups back to launching. Suggestions made to reserve a specific time for scout groups, such as at 3:00 PM, and dedicate this time to launching scout rockets only. Assigning ambassadors to the scout groups to be responsible for getting them signed in, filling out flight cards, preparing rockets, and sending them up for safety check-in. Require limits on additional spectators accompanying scout group. September Mt Airy launch- Agreed to launch if enough volunteers. Ed Jackson to send out volunteer survey. John McCoy Night Launch- Discussion of whether to cancel September’s night launch. MOTION, Bradley Grant, Don Carson, to cancel 2020 night launch, tabled from August’s meeting. Motion passed, none opposed. Treasurer’s report: Cash: 342.94 Checking: 412.15 Savings: 2647.00 Total: 3402.09 In: 110.00 Out: 9.50 Note: Bank is now charging monthly fees. Ed Jackson to contact bank. MOTION by Alan Williams, Sarah Jackson, to accept treasurer’s report. None opposed, motion passed. New Business: Holiday Party- Discussion of whether to cancel holiday party, or hold it in person with no food, or have a virtual party. Suggestion to move raffle to July picnic instead. MOTION, Ed Pearson, Jim Miers, to cancel 2020 Holiday party. MOTION, Ed Pearson, Ed Jackson, to table motion to cancel Holiday party until the October meeting. Motion passed, 1 opposed. Motion to cancel 2020 Holiday Party will be voted on in October meeting. Spaceman Contest- Ed Pearson presented an idea for a new contest, in which members would build and paint a Semroc Spaceman and receive a cash prize. MOTION, Ed Pearson, Jennifer Ash, to allocate $43 as prizes for a Spaceman build contest, with members having two months to build and submitting pictures to be judged on originality and execution. Motion passed, none opposed. Ed Pearson to finalize rules and judges. Annual Performance Contest at Goddard- Ed Jackson presented the idea of creating a year long contest to take place at the Goddard Space Flight Center. The idea is to have flyers launch for a specified goal, such as altitude or duration, and posting monthly results on a leaderboard. This will allow flyers to hone their building skills and bring more A and B flyers to competitions. Ed Jackson to prepare plan and make a motion at another meeting. Doug Frost- Founding NARHAMS member, Doug Frost, passed away on August 20th, 2020. Ed Pearson spoke about Doug’s importance at creating the club, as well as his influence on bringing other flyers to the club, such as John Barrowman.
