Prior to the meeting John McCoy presented finishing techniques and brought several products and finished models for display. Mary and John McCoy provided the evening.s refreshments. Meeting was called to order by President Alex Mankevich at 7:05 PM. Election of Officers: The slate of officers was as follows: President . Alex Mankevich, Vice-President . Alan Williams, Section Advisor . Mark Wise, Treasurer . Maria Ha and Secretary . open. Nominations from the floor were called for each office. Mark Wise nominated Dave Fuller for Secretary. Dave respectfully declined. No nominations were received from the floor for the other offices. Ed Pearson made a motion that the slate of officers be voted by acclimation. Jim Baird seconded. Passed. Outreaches: Dave Fuller conducted a launch for 4th graders at a Waldorf elementary school on May 15, 2015. Richard Crisco conducted a Boy Scout build session on June 22, 2015 with a fly on June 26. 150 rockets. A SISTER launch was conducted at the Goddard Visitor Center on July 15, 2015. Richard Crisco, Ed Pearson, Tom Bagg , Alex Mankevich and Alex.s parents assisted. 42 rockets were flown. Optimus Prime Spinoff Launch was conducted by Tom Bagg at the Goddard Visitor Center on July 16, 2015. 15 rockets were flown as a demo launch for the winners of the Optimus Prime Spinoff Challenge and VC visitors. The annual Goddard Contest was held at the Goddard Visitor center on July 19, 2015. The starting temperature was 91 degrees and it just got hotter throughout the day. WUSA 9 sent a cameraman to record the contest. We had 91 contestants . up from our 3 year average of 55 contestants. Mike Fritz of Estes-Cox sent a large box of donated model rocket kits for the winners. No July 2015 Business Meeting Minutes had been posted for reading. Alex recounted the August 2015 meeting informal discussions. Motion by Alan Williams, Second by John McCoy. Passed. Old Business: System 3 PA system . Jef Fineran reported that for around $100 he can assemble a new system including the power inverter and PA Amplifier. Speakers are already secured. Motion by Maria Ha to allow up to $120 for PA system purchases. Second by John McCoy. Passed. 2015 Night Launch Issues by Jim Filler: Jef Fineran is to take the night launch equipment from John McCoy and transport on Sept 12th. John McCoy reported we have enough night launch flight cards. Alex re-iterated the night launch protocols. Jef reported we will try to use the PA system during the night launch at ½ power with the speakers on the ground. Jim Flis . 50th Anniversary Model Sales: Maria Ha reported that NARHAMS sent its letter to Mr. Flis asking that he hold off on his sales of the anniversary model until we can drawn down our supply (30 unsold models). No response from Mr. Flis, however his website reflects that he is abiding by our wishes. NARHAMS Business Cards: John McCoy asked about the status of the business cards. Kevin Johnson will be contacted to see if we can get another printing done. Two tents were set up for shade at the sign-in table. Maria had sent the paperwork to the Frederick Parks and Rec. Beaucoup donations were received in the donation box. Alex reported on the preparations for the Goddard Open House on Sept. 26, 2015. Narhams will be flying two demonstrations racks. A security guard will control the foot traffic up the sidewalk from the parking lot. NARHAMS is allowed 5 vehicles on the VC parking lot on event day. Additional logistical details will be emailed to participants as they become available. Richard Crisco will donate his motors for the launches. Alex will be asking members for models to fly. Business Meeting Minutes September 05, 2015 (continued) Alex reported on Chris Flanigan.s .1st. Postal Contest for Giant Altitude.. Model s must be flown between Sept 4, 2015 to Oct 18, 2015 and results mailed by Oct 19, 2015. Jim Filler will have logging altimeters available to borrow at the next 2 club launches. Mark Wise determined that we have no Mt. Airy airspace issues to be concerned with for this contest. Alex reported that Don Carson arranged to have a new page on our website for NAR Contest Points earned. Don plans to update the page periodically as well as to publish the listing on the ZOG-43. Alex reported that he will be at the AIAA Mid Atlantic Section summer picnic on Sept. 19th with the system 2 launch equipment. Maria Ha was given the NAR Junior free membership application to forward to the 4-H winner of the model rocketry entries at the 2015 Montgomery County Fair. Alex proposed on behalf of Jim Filler that we hold a .Best in Show. contest of any nicely crafted model rocket at the Holiday Party. Everyone votes for the top 3 models. Winner gets a Hobby Works gift card for $25 to come out of the treasury. Motion to allow $25 for the gift card by John McCoy/Second by Alan Williams. Passed. Alex reported on his health issues and Sept 30th surgery. Alex will be on the physically unable to perform list for the future Goddard Launches and the October Sport Launch. Alan will conduct the October business meeting. Jef and Ellen will be assisting at the Oct. 4th Goddard Launch. Ed Pearson will take over the narration of the Goddard Launches. Ed Pearson gave his insights for enhancing the contest flying experience for NAR members. His suggestions included simplifying the guide for conducting contests, establishing easy-to-find links at the NAR website and better promotional and advertising efforts.
