Minutes

Minutes from July read. Motion to approve (Roger Allen/John McCoy) passed.
August meeting did not have a quorum (9 members attending, but needed 10)

Old Business
PG County Fair Sep 9. Jennifer can't attend due to a conflict. Ed may be able to help.

NARHAMS supported 2 NAR memberships at the Montgomery County Fair. Daevin Hugh won the junior membership. Andrew Dobos won the senior membership. Kevin did a nice certificate for each.

Recap of decision in July to move Goddard launches to Saturdays next year. The primary reason was that Goddard VC is closed July and August on Sundays. Another benefit is that it syncs up better with the cadet program. Would be good to have cadet program run 9:30 - 11:30 to give enough time for lunch.

Recap from NARAM: Thomas won numerous trophies. We also won section of the year again. Award will be given to Tom Bagg.

Need volunteers to provide refreshments for Oct and Nov meetings. Mary McCoy will do Oct.

Scott is still talking with Bill Stine about nose cones for the NARHAMS building session kits.

Jim reviewed the options for storing launch equipment: either a storage unit, or at someone's house. Jim currently has it at his house, but doesn't have room to keep it past September launch. John says we should have a launch fee to cover storage. Kevin suggests we look at other options first, and resort to a launch fee only if needed. Jim needs to contact the Parks dept to see if they have any problems with us collecting launch fees on the field. Ed suggested getting more information about flyers to send them future announcements, also giving a discount to club members. Jim will send a letter asking if we can place a storage shed inside a secured maintenance area at the Mt. Airy park, or somewhere nearby. If not, then ask if we can collect launch fees, along the same lines as soccer association fees. Jim Miers says we need to figure out how many club members will pay an annual launch fee. Then how much additional revenue would be collected from non-members. Also a distinction between collecting cash on site vs paying up front. Launch priviledges should not be tied to membership. Motion to allocate up to $80/month for storage through the end of this year (Roy Lappalainen/Mark Wise) passed.

Treasurer's Report
In August, income of $5 dues was received.
Cash: 93.50
Bank: 2,374.96
Total: 2,468.46
Motion to accept (Mark Wise/John McCoy) passed

New Business
Building session at CP Aviation Museum Oct 14. Scott can get kits for us again.

Roy will be coordinating building sessions at Hobbytown USA. Possibly to coincide with regular launch.

OPOSSUM-11 events: E BG MR, STD (45 sec), RDA (altimeters), C SRD. Roy is CD. Motion to have events as listed (Mark Wise/Thomas Henderson) passed.

John - several microclips were causing problems. Wires were melting inside the insulation due to thermal conductivity.

NAR safety committee has started a process were clubs can fly uncertified motors to gather data to see if they can be recertified. First launch has already been approved for Sep 16. John McCoy will be supervising and reporting back. Soome motors that will be flown: A3-0, A10-0, 1/2A0-S, B14-5, A8-0

Jim Barrowman donated a bunch of old kits to the club. An idea was to put some of the up on eBay, with the proceeds funding a special program. Scott Branche thinks we can raise about $1000. Motion that Scott sets up sale of kits to benefit the club treasury (John McCoy/Alan Williams) passed.

Motion to adjourn (Jim Miers) passed. Adjourned 9:52 pm
