Old Business

Alan Williams reported that the 4-H launch is scheduled for tomorrow, September 9. Russell Sheets will do the launch but there will probably not be very many participants.

Alan Williams reported that there will be no rocket launch at the Frederick Air Show since the Civil Air Patrol section didn't have anything to launch.

Night launch is scheduled for September 9. The launch opens at 2 pm with a NOTAM in effect from 2 pm - 6 pm. The range will shut down from 6 - 7 pm for dinner and night launch setup. From 7 - 8 pm, models must be under 1 pound. After 8 pm, the NOTAM resumes and models up to 3.3 lbs are allowed. During the night launch, any model flown with C motors and above must use electronic lighting. Lower power models may use cylume sticks. Paul Miller reported that the stopwatches have been purchased, but they were the wrong type. He is awaiting return/exchange.

Alan Holmes reported that fiberglass poles for rocket retrieval from trees run about $400. John McCoy mentioned that Cabalis sells 20 foot fishing poles for around $20. Jennifer Ash-Poole will followup on the search. Other possibilities include paint poles and/or landscaping or tree surgeon supplies.

The first annual crab feast went off very well. Many thanks to Jim Miers for providing the yard and to Paul Miller for bringing the crabs. Jim reported that 18 people attended (including Matthew Berg), 1.5 bushels of crabs were purchased, and about 2 dozen crabs were left over. With all the expenses, we came out $37.89 ahead and that money was added to the Ledo's fund.

New Business

Alan Holmes moved to spend $5 for the sanction fee for MATTHEW-4. Mary McCoy seconded the motion. Jennifer Ash-Poole amended the motion to state that we pay the $5 only if we do not get a free sanction as is normally done. Mary seconded the amendment. There was an extended discussion over strategy for the contest year (noted below). The vote was finally called for and passed without dissent.

Paul Miller noted that this year is NARAM-43 which has special meaning for us, i.e. ZOG-43. Our normal competition calendar includes 3 regional, 1 open, 1 section meet. However, we can theoretically get more points by attending 4 regional meets. There was much discussion over how we would start acting like Launch Crue if we host unannounced regional meets. The final consensus is that we will continue with our regular launch calendar but really work to increase club participation at launches. A letter will be sent to all club members explaining our intentions. Special incentives will be offered including subsidizing A/B NAR memberships, providing transportation to/from launches, and proxy flying events.

Jennifer Ash-Poole moved to be reimbursed $22 for glow sticks for the night launch. Jim Filler seconded the motion, which passed without dissent.

Paul Miller noted that Scott Branche of Hobby Works in Laurel is getting married on Sept 23.

Paul Miller reported that Hobby Works in Rockville is requesting that we have a club membership card to be able to get a 20% discount there. The card will need to have Ed's signature and an expiration date.

Jim Filler reported that the System 1 box is overflowing due to the addition of rack 3. Mary McCoy moved to spend "up to the cost of the item" for getting a bigger box to hold everything for racks 1 and 3. Kevin Johnson seconded the motion. Mary clarified the expenditure to limit it to $100. Alan Williams seconded the amendment which passed without dissent.

Alan Williams reported that College Park Air Fair is Sept 23. We will have a static display and 15 min demo launch. All vehicles will need to be off of the grounds by 8:30 am.

Goddard Community Day is Sept 24. We will have a 1 hour demo launch starting at 3 pm. Help is asked to arrive early as parking will be limited.

Alan Williams moved that the meeting be adjourned. Jennifer Ash-Poole seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 9:51 pm.
