Minutes of NARHAMS Meeting 6/4/98

The meeting was called to order at 7:56 pm by Jim Filler.

The minutes from the May meeting were read and accepted.

Old Business

Alan Williams received a letter from College Park Airport. They are asking us not to sell merchandise at the College Park Air Fair since we are registered as exhibitors and not vendors. Also, Space Camp is being held at College Park Airport June 22 - August 14 in 2-week intervals. We are asked to provide a guest speaker for either or both sessions.

College Park Air Fair is September 12-13. John McCoy will not be attending, so we need to bring launch equipment, tables, and lots of display models.

The Goddard Contest is scheduled for July 19. We will need to bring launch equipment, tracking stations, and radios. Events are A Altitude and A Spot Landing, with only 18 mm A motors allowed.

Jim Filler reported that ECRM-25 was a success, despite the low turnout of 13 contestants. The weather was gorgeous, and we god 11816 points.

OPOSSUM-2 is scheduled for June 12 with John McCoy as the contest director. Events are 1/2A Flexwing, 1/2A Boost Glider, and Plastic Model Conversion.

New Business

Jennifer Ash-Poole reported that Kevin King wants to bring around 20 cub scouts to the July 11 launch at Middletown. John McCoy will talk with him about preparations.

Alan Williams staffed the NASA Visitor Center display at Andrews Air Show May 16-17.

Jim Filler reminded everyone that RAMTEC is June 20-21 in Center Valley, PA. Glenn Feveryear is the contest director, and the events are 1/4A PD, A BG, 1/2A FW, D DEL, and B SD MR.

We had many contestant packets left over from ECRM. Jim Filler will send one packet to each of the manufacturers who contributed. John McCoy moved to add a NARHAMS patch to each of the packets (4 total). Paul Miller seconded the motion, which passed.

Jim Filler talked with people on CompuServe, and also with Mark Bundick, about the declining number of kids in the NAR. Bunny is concerned about being able to provide the same level of service to junior members as seniors if we are to reduce the membership fees for juniors.

Paul Miller wanted to know if NOVAAR was mad at us since they did not attend ECRM. Robert Edmonds reported that Frank Dorer has resigned as president of NOVAAR, with John Langford acting president. He also added that NOVAAR members have become very apathetic, and the section is stagnating. There is no hatred of NARHAMS -- they just didn't like C Cluster Altitude.

Ed Pearson is conducting a workshop at the Air and Space museum on June 5. Rockets will be built there and flown at Goddard.

Ed Pearson will be attending the international rocketry championships in Romania on July 9-22. Ed is the manager for the team of 14 competitors.

Alan Williams moved that the meeting be adjourned. Jennifer Ash-Poole seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 pm.
