The meeting was called to order at 8:06 pm by Jim Filler.
The minutes from the meeting April were read. Alan Williams moved that they be accepted as read. Robert Edmonds seconded the motion.
HQSM-31 results appear in the May ZOG-43. Overall, we picked up 1017 points. Drag Race was a lot of fun, and not difficult to judge.
ECRM-25 is May 16-17. The shelter permit has been received. Jim Filler paid the $40 fee, plus $50 (refundable) deposit. Tracking tests at HQSM-31 showed that Tracking East needs to be moved farther from the launch area. Contestant packets have been stuffed. Ed Pearson will do Scale judging for C Division. David O'Bryan will do other divisions. John McCoy has ordered two new marine batteries for the launch equipment.
Order of events for ECRM:
Saturday, 10 am - 1 pm: Duration
Noon: Scale turn-in deadline
1 pm - 5 pm: Cluster Altitude, in 3 shifts
Sunday, 10 am - Noon: Scale Altitude
11 am - 2 pm: Duration
2:30 - 4 pm: Picnic
There will be a $10 contestant fee, and $4 picnic fee.
The June building session is for B Helicopter. Ken Brown is providing kits at a 20% discount. Chris Kidwell is handling orders.
Regarding the letter to landowners at Middletown, Chris Kidwell and Jennifer Ash-Poole have written the letter. It will be sent out very soon.
Jim Filler wants to get a new box to keep all of the radios and calculator for tracking. Paul Miller moved to spend $10. Michael Filler seconded the motion, which passed.
John McCoy reported that one of the launch batteries is dead. He plans to get some new gel cell batteries, approximately $50 each. We also need to get a scale for weighing rockets up to 1 pound. We had originally allocated $135 for a scale back in February 1997, but no action was taken. Paul Miller moved to allocate "several hundred dollars" for ECRM expenditures. Andrew Milled seconded the motion. It passed with 8 for and 3 against.
Robert Edmonds extended great appreciation to Alan Williams for an excellent launch at Goddard Community Day.
The Rockville Consorium buidling session went very well, with 22 models built and flown. There was only 1 cato.
The Baltimore chapter to the AIAA contacted Jim Filler about wanting us to do a demo launch at Johns Hopkins on September 12. That is the same date as the College Park Air Fair, so there is no way we can do it.
Alan Williams reported that Astronomy Day will be held at the Owens Science
